The girls seem to be adjusting well to being here. They love playing with all their aunts, uncles, and cousins. It seems like Aria remembers everyone and even different places. Yet, Nina was smaller when we left and it is taking her a little longer to adjust… she can be quiet ‘clingy’ at times! We have been staying with David’s parents this first week, but today we are hoping to move into an apartment that our big family here has built for ‘people like us’. It is located in walking distance from David’s parents’ house and is close to a grocery store, so that is nice… especially since we do not have a car, but I guess we are used to not having wheels.
Since being here, we haven’t seen the sun hardly at all. It has been so rainy and dreary… but then that means it is above freezing… so that’s a nice change. :D Aria is a little disappointed that there is no snow here, but maybe before we leave we’ll see some more white stuff. I’m sure there will be some waiting for us when we return to Russia!
Yesterday morning, Aria gave us such a scare. I think that she is enjoying the ‘freedom’ she feels here, not being locked inside an apartment all day. She loves opening and closing doors. Well, yesterday, I was talking to David’s mom in the kitchen while watching Nina, and Aria was playing not far away. When I went to check on Aria, I saw that the front door was open! Right away, I knew that Aria had gone outside. I ran outside and yelled for her, but she was no where to be found. I ran inside and told David’s mom and brother and right away they went running outside looking for her too. After looking for about 15 minutes (although it seemed more like hours), David’s mom came walking down the street carrying her. Here, it seems that a lady riding a bike saw Aria walking on the sidewalk with no coat, hat or shoes (she was just in her socks, and everything is all wet here from rain) and took her to a nearby school. They saw David’s mom looking around and asked her if she was looking for a little girl. I was so thankful the lady on the bike saw her and took her to a safe place, as there are so many cars going by (we are living in a city here), and who knows what kind of people! Surprisingly, Aria was not crying, she just looked more shocked… especially when she saw that I had been crying. So, we are so thankful that our little Aria was kept safe, and we are REALLY keeping our eyes on her… making sure she doesn’t just open and close doors and run somewhere. She really has no fear of anything… which can be quite dangerous! I had to think that I’m kinda glad we live behind locked doors in Russia!
