Tuvan Candy :)

The other day, David’s language helper, Asis, brought him a very special treat… Tuvan candy! The long pieces of “candy” actually come from Mongolia. They are made from camel’s milk which has become very sour and lumpy. They then run some water through the sour camel’s milk, place it in a bag, and then place it on the roof of their yurt (portable tent-like house) to dry. Once it has dried, it becomes very hard. The small white pieces of candy come from T-land. They are made the same way, it’s just that they use cow’s milk instead of camel’s milk. Camel’s milk is a lot fattier, so you can really taste the difference in the two kinds of candies. Asis told David that whenever he goes out in the country in order to herd sheep, etc., he likes to put a big piece in his mouth and suck on it all day long. He really likes the stuff! David did a great job and ate quite a bit when Asis gave it to him. Being the nice guy that he is, David brought some home for me to try. When Asis asked David what we thought about it, David just said, "well, it is very unique"! Definitely doesn't compare to a Snickers bar!
