As we live in an apartment with 9 floors, our building has an elevator. It doesn't always work, which makes riding it a little nerve-racking. Who wants to be the one stuck inside when it decides to stop working again??? We live on the 3rd floor, so we usually just take the steps. But we do ride it whenever we go outside with the stroller... just makes things a little easier on my back. :) Well, Aria and Nina enjoy taking the elevator, although it does make them a little nervous too. I think it's the funniest thing, because neither of them can say the word 'elevator'. Instead, they say 'alligator'. I find it is so funny, because I remember that when my sisters and I were young, we also were not able to say the word 'elevator'. We would refer to them as 'alligators' as well! (Do you remember that dad?)
So, this was our conversation the other day, waiting for the 'alligator' to come:
Nina: Mommy, can we ride in the 'alligator'?
Me: Yes, Nina. But it's called an 'el-e-vat-or'.
Nina: Yeah Aria! Mommy says we can ride in the 'alligator'!
Aria: No, it's an 'el-er-vat-or'
Nina: Right. Alligator.
Aria: Eelervator.
Nina: Alligator.
(sigh) I guess they'll learn how to say 'elevator' correctly some day. I did. :)
