The past week

Hello everyone! First of all, my apologies for not having updated for a week! We've been... umm... a little busy. :) I'll just give a quick update on what we were up to the past seven days.
Monday- Our Heidi came home! We were so excited to be all together as a family of 7! Yet, I had noticed when I had picked up Heidi from the hospital that morning, that she didn't have much of an appetite and just wanted to sleep. I had a difficult time getting her to eat the rest of the day.

Tuesday - Heidi did not have much interest at all in eating. I tried everything... even pumping my milk and feeding it to her with a bottle... she still didn't want to eat. I had trouble getting her to eat anything from 8am to 5pm! We called the children's hospital and they told us to check her temperature. Thankfully, she didn't have a fever. But why didn't she have much of an appetite???

Wednesday-Friday - We took the twins to their pediatrician for a check-up. Both girls are developing well. :) Their hips were checked by ultra sound, and they continue to look good! Yet, because they were born 6 weeks early, and since hip displasia is in our family, the doctor thought it would be good if we would do "wide diapering" on the twins. (Not really sure what you would call it in English.) Basically, we just take a small hand towel, fold it up and put it over their diaper. This just keeps their legs spread apart a bit more, putting their hips in a better position to develop well. They look hilarious with their skinny legs and arms and then such a big, puffy bottom. :)

I told the doctor my concern about Heidi not having much of an appetite, and he just told me that I need to make sure she eats every three hours, as she's so small and can get dehydrated quickly. Hmmm... but how do I make her eat if she doesn't want to??? That afternoon, Heidi again didn't want to eat, and the small amount that she did eat, she ended up spitting up everywhere. We called the hospital and they told us to bring her in. To make a long story short, Heidi, Hanna (who came along so she could eat!) and I ended up staying at the hospital until Friday evening. Thankfully, the doctors could not find anything wrong with our little Heidi, yet were not sure why she didn't have much of an appetite. They concluded that perhaps she was fighting off some kind of virus or infection and thus wasn't feeling well enough to eat very much. Thankfully, Friday evening Heidi's appetite returned, and she's been eating so well ever since! :)

While I was at the hospital with the twins, Aria and Nina went to spend a day and two nights at their cousins' house. Both girls had such a fun time with their cousins Lara and Mia and I don't think they missed their mama and papa at all! It was a great opportunity for them to spend some quality time playing with their cousins. Also, it was a big help to David, as he then only had Micah to watch while I was at the hospital with the twins. Vielen Dank Nelli und Peter!!! :)

Saturday - We had a Christmas gathering with David's mom's extended family. It was really nice being able to see family again which we haven't seen for a couple of years. The kids thoroughly enjoyed playing with all of their cousins.
It's a tradition that Grossma gives each of the great-grandchildren (which there are over 40 now!) a bag full of candy for Christmas. This year, one of David's cousins dressed up as Santa Claus and handed out the bags to the children. The kids loved it! Nina called him "the Snow Man". :) In the picture below, Santa Claus is giving Micah his bag of candy. (Sorry the picture isn't the best... it was taken by our cell phone. My hands were too full of diaper bags and kids when we left our apartment, I forgot our camera.)

Micah enjoying some of his candy. Oh, and he finally got a hair cut! :)

Sunday- All five of our kids happy to be together again!

This afternoon (Sunday), it was quite snowy and cold outside. And since we had a busy week and were apart for most of it, we decided to just spend the afternoon/evening at home together. I thought it was a great opportunity to give all the kids some much needed baths! I started with the smallest ones in our family. :)

Since our Heidi and Hanna are still quite small, we thought the bathroom sink would be the perfect place to give them their baths. It worked out very well! Heidi seemed to enjoy her little bath. :)

Hanna wasn't too sure about it all. :)

After the twins were all nice and snug in their pajamas (thanks Grandma for sending them!), they slept for hours, only waking to eat! I didn't realize getting a bath could be so tiring! :)
