I have always found it difficult to make German cakes. The recipes often call for ingredients that I am not familiar with, and the manner in which they are made wouldn't be labeled as "easy" by me. When I found out that my sister-in-law, Irina, likes to make cakes and does a good job at it, I asked her if she wouldn't mind showing me how to make some. As we were all asked to make some cakes for David's brother's wedding tomorrow, I thought it'd be a perfect opportunity for me to learn some tips from Irina. So, we spent a few hours yesterday and today baking and decorating 4 cakes together. Of course, the kids had to help too. =) I learned quite a bit from Irina, and have a few good German cake recipes now too! Vielen Dank, Irina! =)
No measuring cups here! Everything is weighed out and measured in grams... something I've gotten used to over the years.
Tante Irina was a very good and patient teacher!
One of the finished products... complete with a layer of peaches and cream in the middle!
