We're still here!

This past Monday, our Micah turned 10 months! He sure is getting big! He’s not crawling yet, but he sure is enjoying moving around, and is getting quite good at it. We would prefer it if he didn’t begin standing up or walking for a while yet, as this would give his hips the opportunity to get stronger. Yet, we’re not sure if he will wait that long.

The other day, Aria put her hat and necklaces on Micah. Then she stood back, looked at him and said (in German), “now Micah, you are a beautiful boy”! Oh my! I guess that’s what happens when you’re the little brother and have two older sisters. :) (I remember ‘dressing-up’ my little brother too, and he survived, so I guess it’s o.k.) I’m not sure if Micah will appreciate these pictures when he’s older, but I think they are cute.

The kids and I ended up staying inside all week. It is now getting down to minus 40 degrees C/F outside now. It would be good for us to get fresh air, but I guess I’m just lazy. I don’t really feel like spending 30 minutes bundling the kids up, to go outside and stand around for a couple of minutes until we are too cold and need to go back inside. Yet, perhaps we’ll need to do that this week as we all need some fresh air!

I went outside today for a walk, and it was c-o-l-d! After being outside for about 5 seconds, my cheeks felt as if someone was holding cold ice packs against them. I almost felt like I was getting a headache from the cold. So, perhaps I don't mind staying inside all the time after all. :D

Friday morning, the girls learned what the words ‘sink’ and ‘float’ mean. They each filled a big pot with water, and then dropped different objects in the water. They were so excited to see that some things float, and some things sink! I let them play in the water for a while, perhaps too long as the kitchen was getting quite wet! Yet, they were having so much fun. I guess I figure that if the kids are not hurting themselves or anyone/thing else, and their mess can be easily cleaned up, why not let them play?
(Oh, and I also wanted to say that I’m really not that creative. Actually, there are many times where I throw-up my hands in exasperation wondering what the kids can do next! Yet, we have several really good books full of fun learning ideas and activities for little kids that I often go to for help. So, a lot of the things we do together are ideas I get from books... just in case you were wondering.)

On Tuesday, we are planning on having a little Christmas party with some students from David’s English class. Then, we are looking forward to having a quiet Christmas together as a family. We will also be celebrating Nina’s 3rd birthday on Christmas day! The girls are very excited, and Nina is looking forward to her birthday cake with candles. :)
We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas as you celebrate his birth together with family and friends! We wish that we could celebrate the holidays with many of you, yet be assured that you are in our thoughts! We love you all, and may you be assured of his love for you as well. Merry Christmas!
