While the kids and I were outside this afternoon, several homeless people rummaged in the trash cans and then walked by us. My heart always gets so sad when I see them. How we would like to help them, but we know all too well that any kind intentions would only be used to get enough money for alcohol. (We've already experienced it... several times.) Most people just ignore them, and they pretty much just stick together. Sad.
Anyway, as they were walking by us, one (obviously a little 'happy') stopped and began talking with Micah. He was saying what a strong young boy he is, and Micah was showing him his cute dimpled smile. He talked quite some more to Micah, as I just tried to act the culturally appropriate way. (Answering questions, while being polite but not too friendly, while trying not to look his way.) Well, I was getting a little nervous, until he said one thing that really caught my attention and made my heart break in pieces. He looked at Micah and said, "boy, just don't turn out the way I did." Made me so sad, as I realized once again that these people (and not just the homeless) are without hope and purpose in life.
