Nina's 8th Birthday

I know, I know. I'm quite behind if I am only now posting about Nina's birthday!  But better late than never, right?!

As Nina was born on one of the most celebrated holidays of the year, Christmas day, we try to find different ways in order to make her feel extra special and loved.  For example, she has her very own (artificial) Christmas tree which she sets up in her room every year and decorates just the way she wants to.  She enjoys little special things like that, but of course, she wants to celebrate her birthday with her friends as well.  So, she had a little party a bit early on the 20th. Six friends came home from school with her and they had lots of fun eating, playing dress-up, coloring,
making gingerbread cookies,

smashing a piñata, which held the first clue to a little treasure hunt,

lighting sparklers,

and eating birthday cupcakes.

This picture was taken Christmas morning at her (and the Savior's) birthday breakfast.  :)

Nina, how we love our Nina.  She LOVES to talk. :)  Her teacher says that during their "circle time" every morning in school, Nina always has something to share. (I have a feeling her class knows a LOT of things about our family!)  She really enjoys coloring (while listening to "Adventures in Odyssey"), playing outside with her friends, and collecting treasures. Just yesterday I cleaned out her coat pockets, and it was incredible all the things she was able to fit inside… a pair of knee socks, a pair of gloves, paper towels, candy wrappers, various little toys, etc. And it is not unusual for us to find rocks, or some other precious treasure, under her pillow. She makes us laugh!  :)

She may be one of the smaller ones in our family, but she is definitely our loudest!  She enjoys being with people and seems to know everyone and the names of their parents as well!  Yet despite her love of socializing, she also enjoys time by herself as well. Often we will notice all the kids are playing nicely together, but Nina is not with them. Then we know she's probably up in her room either coloring or sorting through her treasures.  :)

Nina, you are incredibly special. You are so very sweet, considerate, and caring. We also just love the fact that you still really enjoy cuddling with us and we love hearing you tell us about your day.  We couldn't have asked for a better Christmas gift 8 years ago.  We love you so very much! Hope you had a wonderful birthday and that your 8th year will be one full of growth and precious memories for you. Love you, Ninichka.
